Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua reacts after 15 MPs allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party threw their weight behind Nyoro to take over from President William Ruto.
The DP while speaking in Bomet slammed Kenya Kwanza leaders for promoting 2032 succession politics. Gachagua wondered why leaders were interested in succeeding Ruto, yet he was barely two years in office.
“Those who want to succeed President William Ruto should continue, but we want him to succeed. But I am asking youthful people: William Ruto was elected recently. He has nine years to go. You are talking about succeeding him. You young people, what’s the problem?”
DP Gachagua posed. Gachagua, speaking in Bomet county during the burial of Senator Hillary Sigei’s father, said it was disrespectful to talk about succession politics nine years before the election.
“The president has just been elected, and people are already talking about succeeding him in 2032; that is so disrespectful. Someone has not yet settled down, and you are talking about succeeding him; who said you will be alive after the next nine years?” he added.
